Black locust 40# 29"

Beitrag von Ishi » 23.04.2012, 12:04

This slim bow is inspired a little by Hadza bows. It is light and fast, I will chrony it soon. Maybe I am in love, but I think nothing (except maybe yew and laburnum) can compare with beauty of polished and oiled locust. It is 60" ntn, very short for my taste.
This hole in the middle gives it some nasty look. >:D

Whoa once again great stuff! The hole is in the handle, I`m right? The nocks are really cool- I need to copy them soon... the string`s only held by the bright peace of wood? They also seem to be usefull while no material is needed to put the noth in so it can be tillered/shaped till the very end.
But the bow doesn`t seem to be too short 4you ;D
(i love it once more! :) )
Grüße Moe

Wow!
This bow looks very fast.

Why is the colour of black locust so dark brown?

Perfekt tiller, great job again!
(Be careful not to get a bird as inhabitant in the hole....lol...) :D

Only the string-position on a cone so near the end (without any protection to slip-off if s.o. draws too wide) seems very "confident" to me... Hope, it will stack before critical point is reached.. :)

Again, eye candy! No Pig-Fat this time ;) ?

Do you realize that you're living like a maggot in bacon (as we say in Germany), more precisely like a bowyer in black locust. All around your log home I see masses of black locust. Yes, I was on your webpage and I've looked at all the beautiful pictures with black locust in the background. Hey, you live in the right place and you make the very best of it.
Always a great job!

I guess it is his workshop, not his home...

A great bow and a drawweight that even i can handle! I like it! ;)

Moem, yes hole is in the handle.
FluFlu, your bow will be better and more interesting than this one. ;) Much work these days because winter delaying, a lot of good friends waiting, you are one of them. :(
Morten, I think it is fast, will check speed these days. BL is photosensitive: I cover it with pig fat (always pig fat Haithabu ;)) and place few days on the sun and it becomes very dark. I saw some bloodred dark locusts.
Raven, this bow has no stack (at least for me, I am very crude for this light bows) and no crysales. So I think there is enough room for play, these are two early signs of overdrawing.
Sherrif, these were favourite nock type of Tim Bakers.
Yumia, you are right. I live sorrounded by many good wood. I have in my own posession over 2.000 trees of black locust. But I do not work it very much, not the best wood for stronger bows, but ideal for medium and light! I do not live in this cabin but I sometimes spent night there when I have too much work. It is on edge of the village and my house is near by. Lovely feeling to be far away from city noise and concrete. :)
